This is NGC 1491, the Fossil Footprint Nebula. This is an emission nebula, meaning that it is heated up by ionizing radiation from a nearby star and it then emits different photons at the characteristic frequencies of its component gases. The star lighting up this nebula is "a large blue star 1' to the east of the bright center" - I think it's the bright star on the right hand edge of the central furnace.

This nebula shows a lot of the hydrogen red color, but in this and other images it seems to have a substantial amount of other elements in it giving it a color ranging from orange to pale peach. Color is a much manipulated thing in astronomical images because of the extreme stretching of both intensity and color maps; that's what it takes to show very faint things as if they were down the street.

There's a lot in this image that is off the main subject. To the east there's a large dark absorption cloud - probably dust rather than gases - running north to south and it has what might be a loose globular cluster "nearby". Closeness is also a suspect term; an object that is in the same direction as something else but is in fact brighter but much further away can be seen a "close".

There's also another "small" nebula to the western edge of the frame.
